Another Quick Fix

We were lucky enough today that my husband saw this small opening on the passenger side of the windshield while we had a glass company out repairing the Driver side windshield.

Igor (the owner of MIT Auto Glass) was kind enough to fix it for us today.
Igor Mordovtsev was quick and thorough - and he provides a Lifetime warranty. I will use Igor anytime I can now! (916-718-3915)
Thanks Igor!

New Windshield...

...or is the proper term "a new half windshield" when you own an RV with a split windshield?
The Daybreak's windshield looked like this when we bought her...

Today we had the pleasure meeting Igor Mordovtsev - owner of MIT Auto Glass. He started immediately working on the windshield upon his arrival and the rig looked like this in a very short time...

He soon was to the point of working the glass into the seal...

..and finally we had a new windshield with nothing but reflections of bare tree branches!I would highly recommend MIT Auto Glass to anyone in the Sacramento Valley area!

Wiper Blade Adjustment

We noticed that the wiper blades are not centered on the windshield so I asked for some advice from an RV forum.

We received some responses on how to adjust them...and here is a photo of the final result.

Oh...here was the solution..."At the bottom of the wiper arm you will find a nut you can loosen on the smaller rod. Loosen the nut, grab the wiper blade and turn it so it's aligned with the center window frame. Hold it there and re-tighten the small nut on the smaller rod."

Removing Storage...

Generally you will not find a female who is willing to give up storage in an RV -but I think you might understand why I am removing the extra storage that was created in the Damon bathroom. Take a look...
There were two of these attached to two walls.
Here is what the wall looked like once I got one of them down. You can see the spackle patching some holes...along with decorating the wood cabinet. The second shelf evidently did not need spackle to patch the extra holes in the wall-they were hidden by the wire shelf.

Outdoor Plug Fix

This is a minor fix in the scheme of things - but I really want to keep track of the things we get done.
You can see the outdoor 110 plug outlet was open to the weather elements (including the big gap at the top.)

It has now been replaced and has an outdoor weather resistant cover over the complete outlet (including the big gap at the top!) (We can now cross that one of the list!)

More Flooring Stuff

The carpet is coming up - the stains are gone and most of the stale smell is gone. Here are a couple of views-
Here is one from the bedroom looking forward.

Here is another from the front looking back. (Notice the slide still has the carpet on it.)

The last is of the slide after the carpet was cut off.  (The fan is sitting on top of the new water heater waiting to be installed.)

Unexpected Surprise

I came across an unexpected surprise yesterday when we were cleaning out the storage area in the bottom of our "Diamond in the Rough" yesterday...

...yes there were outdoor window sunshades....along with wheel well shades to help save the tires from sun rot. ...and one main living area cover. I am sure this was the one window that had a lot of Arizona sun when they were there for three months each year.
I have hosed them off with the exception of the windshield shade- I won't bother putting that one on until the windshield has been replaced!

Clean Out Day

Today was the day we took much of the stuff from the Damon and put it on the street for a garbage pick-up. Here is what we ended up with.
. . Here is part of the results.

Ugh-Ohhhh

We have started the carpet removal process. Here is a photo of some of the progress.

We found the first (and hopefully the last) piece of wood with a bit of water damage during this process.

The location is directly behind the front wheel wells which means it would have water thrown up to this area while driving in rain or snow.

We found that the wood piece at the step up would lift up easily which made it easy to find the holes.

We are lucky enough that the previous owners did not drive much in the rain.

Bedroom Demolition

I came home tonight to find an unexpected but very pleasant surprise! The bedroom area has gone from a twin bed room...

... to a room with a water tank, a water pump and electrical wires!
I see a queen bed in my future!

A Future Storage Project

This RV has plenty of spots that storage can be added. The spouse found another spot this week.

The panel to the left of the oven has room behind it to either attach a pullout for shelving or maybe even a garbage container.

It will be something similar to the pantry that is in the hallway - but the "door" probably won't be hinged - it will be attached directly to the shelves so that we just pull it out.

Rear TV Removal

Here is another quick project that is done.  We were worried about knocking our head or shoulder on this TV and shelf.  They had it added in the bedroom area.

The problem is the location.  You cannot go to the left of the bedroom door without knocking yourself into the shelf and television.

It now is a clean and empty wall which we can mount a flat screen TV later on if we want to.

The First Project...

One of the first things that had to be addressed before the rain comes was the rooftop.
Here are a couple of photos of the caulking that was at the seams.
This photo shows that we should be dry for this winter.

We do plan to put a new EPDM roof on in the next year or so.

Slide Out...

Note to Self... There is a fuse and a circuit board for the Power Gear slide-out that I won't find again without this note...

Look under the fridge area.

The Project Has Begun...

I was able to take a few photos of the Daybreak once I was pretty sure we were going to buy it.  We did have to clean it out of almost everything that was inside of it. I will admit that I don't think there was an empty square inch of space.
Here are a few photos of the rig before we empty it.

Part of "THE LIST"

I am sure we all have a list of something...and I am the same way...but my lists are never cheap... or short!

Take a look of some things  that need to be done....

1.      Driver side windshield is broken-it needs replacing.(both sides may need resealing)
2.      Wipers need replacing.
3.      Generator won’t run.
4.      All plastic latches to hold the outside doors up need replacing.
5.      Dash Air Conditioning does not work.
6.      Jacks don’t work.
7.      Jack down light comes on while driving.
8.      Full awning has multiple rips in it…needs replacing.
9.      Slide awning is also damaged- also needs to be replaced.
10.   The roof caulking needs to be redone ASAP (There will be water intrusion when it rains otherwise)
11.   Rubber roof needs to be replaced within the next 2 years.
12.   Carpet stains will not come out – carpet needs to be replaced. (This may also be source of smell.)
13.   Tires are 6 years old- they need to be replaced.
14.   Water leaks around windows.
15.   Bottom door lock does not work – it needs to be fixed/replaced.
16.   TVs will not work with new mandated format unless you are evidently hooked to cable so they will not work if you are dry-camping.
17.   Wallpaper is peeling away at inside RV wall corners (water leaks?)
18.   Bath fan does not seem to work.
19.   Outside refrigerator vent broken- needs to be replaced.
20.   Gouge on passenger side wall near fridge needs to be fixed.
21.   Plastic Wheel Well trim is broken- needs to be replaced.
22.   At least one storage area leaks…there is mold on items that were stored in it.
23.   Plastic trim around bottom third of rig is broken/cracked…needs to be replaced. (This may have caused the leakage in storage area.)
24.   Owners’ manual books are damaged and pages are stuck together. (Have not found replacement books yet)
25.   Batteries will not hold charge- will need to be replaced soon.
26.   Electrical Cover on outside passenger side is missing- it needs to be replaced. (There may also be issues with electrical due to water being able to get into electrical system.)
27.   Cover on driver side for phone/cable is missing…needs replacing.
28.   30 Amp electrical cord  needs to be replaced…end is partially melted (fryed)
29.   Electrical cover mentioned in #26 also is allowing water to enter behind wall due to the “hole” at top. There may be water damage there.
30.   Need new sewer hose –tanks cannot be dumped - no other water system area has been checked…including water heater and water pump.

Discovering the Diamond...

My husband & I recently purchased a 1999 Damon Daybreak motorhome .  He has now given me the nickname of the "DamonDiva" because I can spend so much time sitting in the RV while I imagine flooring and so many projects for this RV. (Maybe it is because he now thinks it would have been cheaper to buy me a diamond instead! )

I plan to keep a record of our progress here so I can make sure I have a record of how and when we did things....
...Stay Tuned....
